La Plata Business Association

With federal and state grants after the 2002 tornado, the Town of La Plata retained the town planning and economics firm of Jakubiak & Associates, Inc. to develop strategies for rebuilding and marketing downtown. To help guide that work effort, the Town created a Steering Committee of downtown business people. In February 2003, the Steering Committee invited La Plata business representatives to a meeting to network, discuss concerns and gauge interest in the formation of a new business association. A slate of potential Board of Directors was presented, attendees concurred, and the La Plata Business Association (LPBA) was formed.

The objectives of the La Plata Business Association are to provide opportunities for businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in the development, redevelopment and preservation of the downtown business district of La Plata to work together to solve common problems; to promote the interest of the La Plata Business community through the sponsoring, marketing and programming of special events; to provide opportunities for advertising and joint marketing development; to promote collaboration, cooperation and the streamlined exchange of information between businesses and the Town of La Plata; to provide a forum for members to meet together at periodic events for the purpose of exposing members to expert testimony on matters relevant to the mission of the LPBA, to exchange pertinent information, and to transact the business of the La Plata Business Association.
